CGH Master Class - October 2024
Become a CGH Guru with AOM!
Join us for 3 days of hands-on learning in Tucson!
The CGH Master Class from AOM is a 3-day in-person course designed for engineers, technicians, department managers, and other stakeholders in optical fabrication industries who could benefit from the power of CGH metrology in their operation. Participants will gain understanding and confidence in CGH test specification, setup, data reduction, and implementation nuances, as well as the breadth of applications CGHs can address (hint, it isn’t just for surface figure testing). With the skills and understanding that the AOM CGH Master Class will provide, participants will be able to leverage the many advantages of CGH metrology to improve efficiency and precision in a range of optics fabrication settings.
Update: The October CGH Master Class is now full! Didn’t grab a spot? Don’t worry—our next class is just around the corner in late spring. Learn more about the Spring 2025 CGH Master Class here.
Course Objectives
Participants can expect to gain the following skills and experience:
- Understand what CGHs are, what they do, and how they work
- Understand measurement concepts for various applications (such as surface figure error, subsystem alignment, and surface-to-surface alignment)
- Understand how to specify a CGH test for various optical surface types
- Understand CGH test alignment methods
- Understand and analyze measurement error sources and how to correct for them
- Gain hands-on surface figure metrology experience with cylinders, aspheres, freeforms, and off-axis optics
- Gain hands-on experience with CGH alignment methods and features
- Gain practical experience in measurement data reduction and uncertainty analysis using Morpheus™ software from AOM
Prerequisites
The target participant is a technical employee who either performs or manages optical metrology at their organization. This includes technicians responsible for setting up CGH tests as well as design and manufacturing engineers responsible for test definition and deployment. The prerequisites for the course are:
- Hands-on interferometry experience for plano and spherical surfaces
- Design or fabrication experience with aspheric optics
- Basic understanding of geometric optics (recommended)
Components
The course will consist of engaging in two types of sessions: lecture-based classroom sessions and laboratory-based sessions. Each day will offer a mix of both session types.
- Classroom Sessions: These sessions will dive into the theoretical aspects of CGH metrology and develop the conceptual understanding. Developed and led by our optical engineering experts, we will teach you the essential building blocks to a successful metrology test!
- Laboratory Sessions: In these interactive sessions, small groups of participants will have the opportunity to work hands-on with CGHs and metrology setups. Building on the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom sessions, these labs will focus on practical applications, allowing you to master key concepts and achieve targeted objectives.
